Day 3 Africa Judo in Tunisia

Hosts Tunisia grabbed
two goldmedals on the third day of the African Judo Championships in Tunis as female judokas Olfa Saoudi and Nihel Cheikh Rouhou earned victory at under-48 kilograms and open categories.

Saoudi won a silver medals at these Championships last year but went one better as she overcame the challenge of Morocco’s Aziza Chakir this year.

Bronze medals went Algeria’s Hadjer Mecerem and Geronay Whitebooi of South Africa.

Rouhou was the highest ranked of the home top seeds, currently 21st in the world rankings, and she made that status tell as she won three matches en route to her final against Senegal’s Monica Sagna.

The bronze medals went to Hortense Mballa Atangana of Cameroon and Unelle Snyman of South Africa.

But a hat-trick of Tunisian victories on the night was denied by Morocco’s Fatima El Qorachi, who defeated home judoka Hela Ayari in the under-52kg class.

Algerian athletes Faiza Aissahine and Meriem Moussa earned the bronze medals.

Algeria’s Mohamed Belrakaa took the men’s open class gold after defeating Egypt’s Maisara Elnagar, with bronze medals going to Dieudonne Dolassem of Cameroon and home judoka Faicel Jaballah.

In the men’s under-60kg class gold went to Morocco’s Issam Bassou, who defeated Fraj Dhoibi of Tunisia.

The bronze medals went to Moussa Diop of Senegal and Salim Rbahi of Algeria.
