Fire Fighters Battle As Fire Guts Olososun Dump Site In Lagos

The government of Lagos State on Monday, issued a quit notice to residents living close to the Olusosun dump site in Ojota area of the state, urging them to avoid the area due to the associated health hazards associated with the thick smoke coming from the dump site.
The Director-General, Lagos State Safety Commission, Hakeem Dickson, gave the advice on relocation to the residents during a press conference on ‘Vision Zero’ in Ikeja.

He said, “The smoke has continued to billow and the advice became necessary to prevent health hazards.”
“Lagos Vision Zero is a transformational approach that interprets the tripod stand of safety, health, and wellbeing at all levels at work. It was borne out of the need to reduce hazards in workplaces and ensure zero accident and zero death.”
On why the Vision Zero campaign was inaugurated, Dickson said the aim is to increase consciousness on personal and organizational safety, adding that the state government was working towards ensuring zero accident in the next three years.
He said government had planned the Lagos Vision Zero Conference with the theme, ‘A Mindset Change towards Zero Harm.’
He also revealed that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, would sign a safety policy document on safety at workplaces in April at a three-day conference being planned by the commission.
As earlier reported by Naija News, the Olusosun dump site has been on fire since last week, releasing heavy smoke into the atmosphere and reducing visibility in the area.
