Chinese Paralympian breaks world record.


Rio 2016 Paralympic gold medallist Liu Cuiqing of China has broken the T11 women’s 400 metre world record.

He  achieved the feat on the final day at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Beijing.

The 26-year-old sets 56.00sec on the track to ensure she broke the world record.

Cuiqing was the only competitor to finish the race as her compatriot Zhou Guohua was disqualified.

It was Chinese dominance with a victory in the men's T37 5,000m final, as Jin Hua eventually crossed the line in 10min 32.85sec.

Zhang Ying was the runner-up with a time of 10:58.01.

Yang Liwan secured his third gold medal in two days.

The Chinese continued to monopolise the competition in the field as 40-year-old Yang Liwan, who won two gold medals a day earlier, came tops in the F54 women’s javelin competition with a best score of 7.33 metres.

Vietnamese duo Nguyen Thi Ngoc Thuy and Tran Thi Tu finished second and third with scores of 4.67 and 4.16metres respectively.

Overall, China  top the medals table with 64 gold, 17 silver and 10 bronze medals.

The three-day event saw 268 athletes from 16 countries descend on Beijing.

The 2018 World Para-Athletics Grand Prix series now heads to Rieti in Italy for the fourth of nine Grand Prix set to take place around the world this year.
