African music icon, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, has bagged a honorary degree by a top South African public university – Rhodes University.
The Award is for her humanitarian works.
The University said that the Doctor of Laws (LLD) (honoris causa) is in recognition of her role as Champion of the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB & Malaria.
The 53 year-old born in Soweto,is also an entrepreneur and a teacher.
Famous as the Princess of Africa, Chaka Chaka has been at the forefront of South African popular music for 27 years.
Her famous tracks include Thank You Mr Dj”, “I Cry For Freedom and“Motherland
She has shared the stage with great Artistes like, Youssou N’Dour, Johnny Clegg, Miriam Makeba and Hugh Masekela.
She had also performed for Queen Elizabeth II, US President Bill Clinton, South African President Thabo Mbeki and a host of other world leaders.
