CAF:3 Nigerian Clubs Crash

Three Nigerian clubsides out of four have crashed out from the continent in the CAF Confederations Cup.
Plateau Utd of Jos, MFM FC of Lagos and Akwa Utd of Uyo were all eliminated from the second tier of CAF club competition while Enyimba Intl remains the only surviving club from Nigeria.
NPFL defending champions Plateau Utd lost 5-2 on aggregate to USM Algers after losing 4-0 in Algeria in the second leg on Tuesday.
MFM FC on Wednesday held Djoliba AC to a scoreless draw in Mali but the result was not enough for the Olukoya boys who lost the first leg to the Malian side in Agege, 1 nil.
Aiteo Cup champions Akwa Utd attempted to turn around a 2-nil deficit to Sudanese Al Hilal but only managed 3-1 win in Uyo in the second leg. The Nigerian team lost on away goal rule after at 3-3.
On their part, 2-time Caf Champions league winners Enyimba threw the gates open in Calabar for Bidvest Wits visit. This may have helped
Enyimba Intl to remain the only Nigeria club in the competition after progressing on away goal rule having held Bidvest Wits of South Africa to a goalless draw, after the first leg had ended 1-1 in Johannesburg.
This outing means that Mozambique have replaced Nigeria in the ranking as nations that will provide 2 teams each in the 2019 CAF Champions League and CAF Confed Cup.
