Nigeria's Aruna Quadri has continued to Make waves as the 2018 International Table Tennis Federation Africa Top 16 Cup in Nairobi Kenya gets to it's semi finals.
But for another Nigerian, a 43-year-old seven time olympian Segun Toriola it was the end of the road.
Toriola seeded fourth, was beaten by a Nigerian playing in the Republic of Congo's colours Saheed Idowu, 11-6, 4-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11-9, 12-10.
Concidentally, Saheed Idowu was a training partner to nigeria's Quadri Aruna in Portugal.
Ironically too, Toriola's ITTF Africa Cup win in 2008 took place in Congolese capital Brazzaville.
Egypt's Omar Assar and Ahmed Ali Saleh emerged victorious, as did Toriola's compatriot Quadri Aruna at the Moi International Sports Centre. In the next set up,
Idowu meets Africa's best Assar, the top seed, who booked his last four place courtesy of success against Tunisia's Thaeur Mamia 11-9, 11-6, 12-10, 10-12, 11-3.
Aruna Quadri the number two seed and defending champion, will meet Ali Saleh, the third seed.
The Nigerian star had ended the hopes of Ghana's Derek Abrefa by at 11-2, 11-9, 11-1, 11-8.
Saleh had also beaten Algeria's Sami Kherouf 11-8, 6-11, 7-11, 11-8, 11-5, 11-9 to qualify.
In the women’s category, Cameroon's Sarah Hauffou, beaten in the quarter-finals at last year's Africa Cup in Agadir, went one better in Kenya.
The 31-year-old lawyer caused a big upset for Nigeria's second seed funke Oshonaike, who won the trophy in 2016, coming through 11-6, 12-14, 8-11, 11-5, 11-8.
It was rubber decision victory when Algeria's Lynda Loghraibi accounted for Egypt's Farah Abdel-Aziz exit, 7-11, 6-11, 11-9, 5-11, 11-5, 11-6, 11-6.
But the remaining two women's quarter-finals went to form as top seed Dina Meshref of Egypt beats Christy Bristol of Seychelles 11-3, 11-3, 11-7, 11-4, and Nigeria's fourth seed Offiong Edem defeated Tunisia's Safa Saidani 5-11, 11-7, 3-11, 11-5, 12-10, 11-8.
