President Muhammadu Buhari who on Monday, March 12, visited Benue state where rampaging herdsmen have killed about 200 persons in 2017 is said to have cut short the visit.
Heykayjones.blogspot.com gathered that many journalists traditional media ncluding The Nation, ThisDay, Tribune, New Telegraph, Nigerian Pilot, Peoples Daily, Punch, Vanguard and Blueprint newspapers among others blocked from accessing the venue.
It was said that those however allowed in were The Independent, Leadership, The Guardian, NAN, Daily Sun, Daily Trust and VON correspondents.
Security personnel mainly SSS and mobile policemen who spearheaded the blockade of the journalists from covering the visit, gave no reason to justify their action against the journalists.
The President was scheduled to visit the headquarters of exercise Ayem AKpatuma formation in Gbajimba, headquarters of Guma local government area of the state, and the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps.
He was also scheduled to visit the paramount ruler of the Tiv nation, the Tor Tiv, Prof. James Ayatse but the itinerary was later cut down.
Two mobile police force officers have been killed by armed herdsmen at Tse-Oragbo in Nyiev council of Guma local government area of the state.
The officers who were among those deployed to the area to contain attacks and killing of innocent citizens were brutally killed by the herders who made an incursion into the now deserted community in the late hours of Sunday night, March 11.
It was said that one of the officers neck twisted round after he was killed.
An eyewitness from Guma who pleaded anonymity said the herdsmen who were with sophisticated weapons carried out the senseless killing few hours before the arrival of President Buhari to the state.
A staff of the federal medical centre in Makurdi (name withheld), confirmed that corpses of the slain officers were deposited at the morgue in hospital.
Meanwhile, it was reported that ahead of President Buhari’s visit to the state on Monday, March 12, security has been beefed up.
The president arrived at the Makurdi Airport at exactly 10:43 am. He will head to the Government House, where the stakeholders are already waiting to meet with him.
President Buhari was earlier scheduled to visit the Tor-Tiv, James Ayatse, the Exercise Cat Race Camp and also meet IDPs in Gbajimba, Guma LGA headquarters but will unfortunately not be able to make other visits asides the meeting with stakeholders.
